Vatthe Conservation Area

 Big Bay

This is the largest conservation area in Vanuatu The Vatthe Conservation Area covers 2,276 hectares of lowland alluvial forest at the southern end of Big Bay on the island of Espiritu Santo. It is owned by the communities of Sara and Matantas. Bush walking and bird watching are popular visitor activities at Vathe.                                                                                                                                                                                                The journey through this special place at the end of big Bay can be the highlight for those interested in Flora & Fauna. Range of walks for all ages & fitness levels, birds, big trees, big ferns, big views, big sky, big country that’s Big Bay. The Vatthe Conservation Area is located at the southern end of Big Bay on the island of Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu. Some 44 species of birds may be seen here. A memorial to Pedro Quirres, the first European to discover Vanuatu in 1606, is located on the beach near Vatthe Conservation area.
